Employees and external parties (§3):

The first time the UNIcard is inserted in a UNIcard station, the UNIcard is activated in the system and a time validity area is printed. Every 180 days you will be informed by mail that you can have an updated validity end date printed at the UNIcard station. This date corresponds either to your last working day or to a maximum of 365 days.

Emeritus:

If you are an emeritus and you would like to continue using the UNIcard, please contact your department management.

Double roles:

If you are matriculated Student and at the same time employed at the University of Basel, there is a so-called double role. In this case, the description according to the activation / update for students applies. (link)

If you exmatriculate, but the employment contract with the University of Basel is continued, the system automatically mutates you into an employee. The next time you update at the UNIcard station, the validity period will be adjusted according to your employment contract and the -S- (for students) will be replaced by an -M- (for employees).

Conversely, if you change from employee to student or start studying while employed by the University of Basel, the system will automatically change you to student. The next time you update at the UNIcard Station, the current semester will be printed as the validity period and the -M- (for employees) will be replaced by an -S- (for students).
