In which libraries is the UNIcard valid?

Register with the SWITCH edu-ID that you linked to the University of Basel in order to make use of the services provided by the University Library Basel and the swisscovery library network. Your UNIcard (students and employees) is valid in all swisscovery libraries. The personal data in your user account is automatically loaded when your SWITCH edu-ID account is linked to your university account.

How do I log in to my library account to view my loans and extend loan periods?

To log in to your swisscovery Basel account, use your SWITCH edu-ID registered with swisscovery. In your user account you can view orders and loans as well as extend loan periods.

Why do I need the UNIcard in the library?

If you would like to pick up items or borrow them on site, you will need to show your UNIcard. The UNIcard can be used as a library card provided that you have already linked your SWITCH edu-ID to the University of Basel and have registered with swisscovery.

Can I also access the e-resources of the University Library with the UNIcard?

The e-journals and e-books licensed by the University of Basel are still only accessible in the University of Basel’s computer network or via VPN client from outside the university network. As before, this requires a unibas e-mail address; access via a library account (UNIcard user number) is not possible.
